RARE DERINGER PISTOL WITH SOUTHERN AGENT MARKINGS. NSN. Cal. 41. 4” irregularly-shaped bbl. Marked “DERINGER / PHILADELA” on lockplate and breech plug. The latter also has the sunburst “P” mark on the upper left flat. Top flat of the bbl is stamped “MAND FOR / HYDE & GOODRICH / AGENTS N.O”. Lockplate, hammer, breech plug, and trigger guard are engraved. Finial of the trigger guard has the typical wheat sheaf used in the 1835-1840 period. Other furniture is German silver, including the forearm cap. The tear drop at the butt is a replacement. Ramrod is missing. CONDITION: Smooth blue/brown patina with signs of old cleaning on bbl. Stock has been cracked and repaired at the wrist with subsequent sanding and re-varnishing. There are short cracks at the lockplate screw and tail of the bbl tang.
