19TH CENTURY CARVED RELIEF PLAQUE OF A BOAR HUNT GONE BAD. Self-framed carved German plaque depicts an early mid-evil boar hunt. A boar attacking a downed guide, dead and attacking dogs surround the boar, a hunter with a lance is preparing to give the death blow. The panel is wonderfully carved with foliage in the foreground. Signed in the lower central right “C. Ferber” and the frame is carved in the manner of a tree trunk with relief carved oak leaves and acorns. Probably a Black Forest carving. Extremely well done and with tremendous action. SIZE: Overall: 21″ x 27″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-23466 (400-600)
