RARE PARKER GRADE 5 (B) DAMASCUS HAMMER DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 ga. SN 50999. Built on an “O” frame with multiple lightning cuts in the water table. It has 28″ very fine pattern Damascus steel bbls choked IMP/CYL with smooth rib, sgl bead & doll’s head extension. Receiver is spectacularly engraved with full coverage game scenes and foliate arabesque patterns. Left lockplate has two setters on point in a field scene and at the back, two flying ducks. Right lockplate has two pointers on point and two quail at the back. Bottom front of the receiver has a large vignette of two setters on point in a field scene & two partridge just in front of the trigger guard. Fences are dbl scalloped on the sides with deep scalloped recesses around the firing pins and it has the “S” shaped lever. Wood is beautiful flame grain streaky English walnut with checkered splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with raised teardrop side panels, 13-1/2″ over a skeleton buttplate with checkered center. The hard rubber grip cap has a large gold oval inlay & there is a gold initial shield on top of the wrist. Accompanied by a Parker letter indicating shipment Aug. 18, 1887 to Lyman B. Jewell of Hartford, CT. Chokes are listed as MOD & CYL. Drop at the heel 3″, drop at the comb 1-7/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 2.6 oz. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain about 90% thin orig Damascus pattern with a minor nick or two. Receiver is silvered case colors while the lockplates retain 60-70% faded case colors, stronger in the sheltered areas. Stock has a hairline back of the top tang & back of the right lockplate, otherwise the wood is sound & retains most of a professionally restored finish.
