ETRUSCAN MAJOLICA SHELL PLATTER, PITCHER AND GEORGE JONES HORS D’OEUVRES SERVING DISH. Early 20th century. The oval Etruscan platter fashioned in the form of eight scallop shells centering a sprig of seaweed. Manufactured and marked by Griffin, Smith & Co of Pennsylvania. The molded lemonade pitcher modeled with sprigs of flowering dogwood on a marbleized ground with branch handle. The George Jones strawberry server with bird flanked by bird’s nests for cream and sugar. The center of the platter with a spray of ferns and flowers. The underside with an impressed mark “Richard Briggs/ Boston” within an irregular border and with two British date marks of manufacture of March 8, 1870. Accompanied by two ladles and a serving spoon. SIZE: Platter: 13-1/2″ l x 9″ w; Pitcher: 9-3/4″ h; Strawberry server: 6″ h x 11″ w x 10″ d. CONDITION: The platter with craquelure, otherwise very good. The pitcher with craquelure, overall very good. The strawberry serving piece with craquelure, bird has been reattached with reinforcing rod and with restoration to tail. Pierced ladle with small fleck in rim, serving spoon with some roughness to edges of bowl. 9-21998 (1,000-1,500)
