RARE LATE VICTORIAN OAK MINIATURE LETTER BOX. Circa 1880. By Leuchars & Son, London. With a brass registration lozenge on frieze drawer, the interior with gilt tooled leather retailer’s stamp “LEUCHARS & SON, 38-39 PICCADILLY LONDON”. The aperture on central drawer retains most recent postal schedule for the location in which this box last served. The case of cylindrical form with domed molded top. SIZE: 16-1/2″ h x 8-3/4″ dia. PROVENANCE: From a Massachusetts Collection. CONDITION: The figured oak case retains original polished surfaces with a honey-brown color and soft patina. All brass fittings original including lock and key. Very fine condition overall. 9-22329 (1,000-2,000)
