*PARKER DHE GRADE DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 169817. Built on an “O” frame with 23-7/8″ (original length) Damascus steel bbls choked MOD/CYL with matted rib, sgl bead, and doll’s head extension, ejectors & dbl triggers. Receiver is engraved in typical “D” patterns with a bird dog on each side & four flying ducks on the bottom, all surrounded with about 60% coverage foliate arabesque patterns & the maker’s name in a ribbon on each side. This receiver appears to have a little extra coverage over the normal “D” patterns. Wood is very highly figured English walnut with checkered splinter forearm & pistol grip stock, 14″ over a skeleton buttplate with checkered center. Accompanied by a Parker letter, which identifies this shotgun as having been shipped Nov. 14, 1914 to Kesler Hardware Co., Salisbury, NC. It lists the bbl as 24″ and the chokes as found. Also accompanying is an email reply from the Rowan Library, Salisbury, NC that lists Kesler Hardware in the 1910 & 1919/20 city directories. The 1939/40 directories does not list that store. Also accompanying is a letter from Mike Spry dated Aug. 15, 2002 addressed to Mr. Parker wherein he states that his wife’s uncle, Ross Bernard Penley of Salisbury, NC purchased this shotgun for his 12 year old son, Bernard around 1937/39 from the Kesler Hardware Store in Salisbury. Bernard recalled that this shotgun was purchased for the storeowner’s son or grandson but apparently never given to him. It remained in Bernard’s possession until about two months before the date of this letter. Drop at the heel 3-1/2″, drop at the comb 1-3/4″. Weight: 5 lbs. 10.8 oz. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain 96-98% orig Damascus pattern, worn to silver with traces of the orig finish in sheltered areas. Balance of the metal & wood retain virtually all of a fine professionally restored finish. Case colors by Turnbull. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bores. 5-60489 JR156 (3,000-5,000)
