EDMUND C. COATES (American, 1816-1871) MOUNTAIN RETREAT. Fine oil on canvas scene shows a home with outhouse next to a cascading stream with pool below. Several ducks are seen on the water and two women are seen feeding chickens outside of the dooryard. A church is seen nestled in the woods. On the right side is a panoramic view of a river valley with tall mountain peaks under a blue and cloud sky. Signed lower left “E C Coates 1863”. Housed in an old gilt carved wood frame. SIZE: 12” x 16”. CONDITION: Very good with some inpainting to sky and craquelure. 9-70769 (1,500-2,500)
