AMERICAN CLASSICAL CARVED MAHOGANY SETTEE. 1st quarter 19th century. The figured crest rail with floral carving above the rectangular upholstered back joined to a rectangular seat continuing to rolled acanthus carved arms with floral terminals raised on acanthus and fruit carved legs raised on massive paw feet headed by fruit and acanthus sprays terminating in brass casters. The whole upholstered in a gold brocade. SIZE: Overall 35″ h x 78″ l. Seat 17″ h. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Very good overall with old if not original finish and good patina. 9-21869 (1,500-2,500)
