RARE QUEEN ANNE “TOWN CRIER” FIGURAL CLOCK. Circa 1675-1725. The polychrome-painted carved pine fanciful figure depicting a town crier with plumed hat and ruffled collar, arms extended, standing on a plinth, mounted on cabriole leg miniature tea-table. Mounted within the torso of the figure is a timepiece with enamel dial, Roman numeral chapter ring, within a “oignon” silvered case. The brassworks with fusee movement and square Egyptian pillars, the backplate decorated with ornate pierced scrolling vinery, with the maker’s name engraved on the edge: “PIERRE ROMILLY *A* GENEVE” . The filigreed outer backplate with the numbers: “*5*4*3*2*1”. SIZE: Overall: 18-1/4″ h. x 6-1/2″ w. x 4-1/2″ d. Timepiece: 2-1/4″ dia. x 1-3/8″ d. CONDITION: The painted surfaces with very early repaint and good dark patina, the proper right hand with loss to fingers, cracks in both arms and at front of collar, looseness to figure at plinth, and old repairs to table legs. The timepiece with damage to dial and hands. The movement appears clean. The silvered case tarnished and worn, the bezel intact.
