*BSW GERMAN MADE DRILLING. Cal. 16X16/8X57JR. SN 37962. Beautiful German made drilling with 23-5/8″ bbls choked MOD/MOD with high matted rib, caterpillar front sight, articulated rear sight & claw mounts for a scope, which is missing. Top of the rib has the maker’s name & “SUHL” in gold. Bbls have dbl lump with Greener cross bolt and dbl triggers with the front trigger set for the rifle. Receiver & lockplates are wonderfully engraved with large vignettes of two ducks & three raebuck on the left side and a stag and three hinds with a rabbit on the right side. Left lockplate has a Greener safety with “S” in gold. Trigger guard has an engraved boar and the bottom of the receiver has “BSW” in gold. Vignettes are fabulously detailed with a fine stippled background and it is all surrounded by very fine arabesque patterns. Top tang has a large “S” in gold. It is mounted in highly figured European walnut wood with checkered splinter forearm & semi-pistol grip stock, 14″ over a serrated horn buttplate. Buttstock has a small European shadow cheekpiece with a 2″ silver oval inlaid near the buttplate which is inscribed “BERLIN – SUHLER WAFFEN / U. FAHR ZEUG WERK SUHL” and has the date “21.12.1935” in the center. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain about 90% strong orig blue with some thinning around the forearm area with some very fine pitting. Receiver & lockplates retain traces of case colors in the very sheltered areas having turned mostly to silver. Stock has a crack in the left side of the wrist and has numerous small nicks, scratches & bruises with a couple of large bruises on the cheekpiece, otherwise the wood is sound and retains 85-90% orig varnish.
