VERY EARLY COLT CAVALRY MODEL SGL ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 4216. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ bbl, standard front sight with a hole through it and somewhat thinned. Hammer has been changed with a concave later style firing pin. Left side of the frame is marked with a “U.S.” and it has 1-pc walnut grip. Ejector rod housing is the first type with bull’s eye ejector rod head and the serial number is lightly stamped in the bottom gullet near the frame. Bbl address & caliber have been re-rolled and the entire revolver restored as indicated by the small 6-pointed star on the right rear web of the trigger guard. Cylinder serial number was mostly obliterated during the restoration process and the last three digits of the serial number were reapplied to the front of the cylinder in an arc around the pivot. Accompanied by a Kopec letter wherein he states that although this specific revolver could not be located in the records it was his opinion that it had been issued to the 4th Cavalry. He further states that it has been restored consistent with a later restoration and refurbished by Colt. He also states that in addition to those items mentioned above, the cylinder pin is also a replacement and that the hole through the front sight was probably done by someone attempting to add a taller blade. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. All matching including the bbl, cylinder & ejector rod housing. Factory restored as mentioned above. Bbl retains 96-97% glossy bright Colt blue. Cylinder retains about 80% blue, strong in the flutes, thinning on the outside diameter. Frame & hammer retain virtually all of their fine Colt case colors that are strong & bright in the sheltered areas, faded elsewhere. Patent dates were severely thinned during the refinishing process but are still legible. Replacement grips are fine with nicks & scratches & retain an oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-56503 (7,500-12,500)
