*WINCHESTER SPECIAL PRESENTATION MODEL 21 DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 22305. This shotgun was presented to William A. Patterson on his 20th anniversary as the President and Chief Executive Officer of United Airlines. Shotgun is a field grade with 28″ bbls choked FULL/MOD with concave tapered matted rib, sgl bead, ejectors & sgl selective trigger. Left side of the bbls has the usual marking with the “2-3/4” obliterated and a “3” over stamped. Apparently at some time in the past Mr. Patterson had the chambers extended to 3″. It is mounted in very highly figured burl American walnut wood with checkered beavertail forearm & pistol grip stock, 13-1/2″ over a crystallized Pachmayr waffle pad. Receiver is step-sided without decoration on the sides. Floorplate is engraved “TO / PAT / ON HIS / 20TH / APRIL 1, 1949”. Pat is inlaid in gold and it has the United Airlines shield-shaped logo also in gold. Below the inscription are twelve engraved names of his subordinate managers. Accompanied by a brief biography of Mr. Patterson who apparently was United Airlines CEO 1934-65. This shotgun was apparently presented to him on his 20th anniversary as president along with a 20 ga. Model 21. This biography also states that Mr. Patterson used both guns for bird shooting in northern Illinois and later gave them to his son-in-law, James Kennedy. In the Fall of 2002, due to medical reasons, Mr. Kennedy sold both shotguns. Also accompanying is a bill of sale dated Nov. 15, 2002. Also accompanied by a dbl ended leather case with the initials “W.A.P”. Drop at the heel 2-1/4″, drop at the comb 1-3/8″. Bore restrictions: left – .021, right – .005. Weight: 7 lbs. 8 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain 97-98% strong orig blue & the receiver 98-99% orig blue with a very few, very scattered tiny pinpoints of rust with a few more on the trigger bow. Wood is sound with light nicks & scratches and retains most of its orig factory finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. 4-56435 JR570 (4,000-7,000)
