*FINE CASED PURDEY SIDELOCK DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 25858A. Beautiful Purdey with 28-1/2″ bbls choked MOD/IMP-CYL with concave tapered matted rib, sgl bead, dbl chopper lump with third bite, ejectors & dbl triggers. Opening lever, inside the forend iron and bottom of the rear lump are engraved with a “2” indicating that this shotgun, at one time, was part of a 2-gun set. It is mounted with very highly figured French walnut with diamond checkered splinter forearm & straight stock with teardrop side panels, 14-1/4″ over a checkered gutta percha buttplate. Bottom of the stock has a gold initial plate engraved “AG”. Receiver & lockplates are beautifully engraved with about 75-80% coverage very fine foliate & floral arabesque patterns. Lockplates have the maker’s name with cocked indicators and fences have a sgl-raised rib with side clips & has assisted opening. It is accompanied by its orig oak & leather, red felt-lined, trunk case containing a 2-pc ebony wiping rod with cleaning implements, a small red leather pouch with Purdey nickeled snap caps, a rnd Purdey oil bottle and a brass shell extractor. Case has heavy brass corner reinforcements, a rnd brass medallion in the lid and the embossed initials “A.G.”. Drop at the heel 1-1/2″, drop at the comb 1-1/8″. Bore restrictions: left – .018, right – .005, Weight: 7 lbs. 0.9 oz. CONDITION: Very fine plus. As new, retains virtually all of its wonderful Purdey finish to both metal & wood that is possibly an old maker’s restoration. Bbls retain virtually all of their fine black finish with only slight muzzle edge wear. Bbl address is slightly soft. Receiver & lockplates retain most of their shellac over the strong English style case colors. Wood is sound with a few minor nicks and retains most of its bright finish. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bores. Case has a few minor scuffs & nicks on the edges, otherwise retains most of its orig finish. 4-57114 JR571 (25,000-35,000)
