UNSIGNED (Italian, 19th Century) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE “TENERIFFE”. Gouache on paper shows a black hulled brig in full sail sailing right to left entering Faro Messina. A white painted legend “Brig “Teneriffe” of New York Capt N. J. Tracy Entering Faro Messina 1875”. The ship has six figures on deck and flies U.S. flag, company flag and ships pennant. Housed in a period and probably original black walnut deep frame with gold liner. PROVENANCE: The J. Hollis Wyman Estate, Milbridge, Maine (State Senator and Wild Blueberry King). IMAGE SIZE: 16-1/2” x 26-1/2”. SIGHT SIZE: 19-1/2” x 28-1/2”. CONDITION: Vertical acid lines where backboard meet with some lightened areas around lines. Otherwise good. 9-29122 (2500-3500)
