*SPECTACULAR CASED PURDEY DBL BBL SHOTGUN 2-BBL SET. Cal. 12 ga. SN 25923. Beautiful Purdey game gun with two sets of bbls, both 26″, with narrow, smooth, concave, swamped ribs, sgl bead with the maker’s name & address. They have dbl chopper lumps with ejectors & sgl non-selective trigger with assisted opening feature. Both have usual markings on the bbl flats, proofed for 1-1/8 oz. loads and 2-1/2″ chambers, which appear to have been opened to 2-3/4″. One set of bbls is marked on the back lump “CHOKE” with both bbls being marked “CHOKE” and on the other set of bbls the left is marked “CHOKE”. One set of bbls appears to be FULL/FULL and the other MOD/IMP-CYL. It is mounted with very highly figured flame grained tiger stripe French or English walnut with checkered splinter forearm and straight stock with raised teardrop side panels, 14-5/8″ over a checkered horn buttplate. There is an oval silver initial plate on the bottom. Receiver, lockplates, opening lever, trigger guard & forend iron are beautifully engraved with very fine typical English rose & scroll patterns with about 70% coverage. Locks have cocked indicators and the maker’s name on each side. Also has the maker’s name & address on the bottom. Top tang has “SAFE” in gold. It is accompanied by its orig oak & leather, red felt lined, trunk case, compartmented for the shotgun with both bbls, a square Purdey oil bottle, a pair of Purdey nickeled snap caps, a bone screw top parts bottle with two spare firing pins, a nickeled screw top metal jar of heavy grease, a 2-pc ebony cleaning rod, a turn screw and spanner. Lid is embossed “J.W.W.”. Also accompanied by a letter from Purdey’s fully identifying this shotgun with two sets of bbls choked as indicated. It was built in 1946 with sgl trigger with a listed weight of 6 lbs. 2-3/4 oz. and a pull of 14-5/8″. Drop at the heel 2-1/16″, drop at the comb 1-7/16″. Bore restrictions: (1) left – .036, right – .030. (2) left – .025, right – .010. Weight: 6 lbs, 7.9 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine, nearly new. Has been fired but retains virtually all of its fine orig factory finish to both metal & wood. Bbls have only very minor muzzle edge wear & the wood a very minor nick or scratch. Case is extremely fine with some very minor soil and a nick & scratch or two. 4-55277 JR584 (25,000-35,000)
