*SCARCE CASED PURDEY DBL BBL SHOTGUN 2-BBL SET. Cal. 20 ga. SN 27908. Beautiful Purdey with 26″ bbls choked FULL/MOD and 25″ bbls choked SKEET/SKEET. Both sets of bbls have narrow tapered matted ribs with sgl bead, dbl chopper lumps, ejectors & sgl non-selective trigger and the receiver has assisted opening. It is mounted in very beautiful, highly figured, shell grain, burl walnut with a checkered beavertail forearm & pistol grip stock with raised teardrop side panels, 14-3/4″ over a checkered butt. Stock has the gold initials “DF” inlaid in the bottom. Receiver & lockplates are beautifully engraved in Purdey’s standard, very fine, rose & scroll patterns with about 70% coverage. Maker’s name is on each lockplate along with a cocked indicator and the maker’s name & address are on the bottom of the receiver. Trigger guard & trigger are for a right-handed shooter. Water tables have usual proof & maker’s marks with the 26″ bbls marked on the rear lump “R-65%” & “L-75%” and the 25″ bbls are marked “SKEET”. Both have 2-3/4″ chambers and are proofed at 3-1/4 tons. Accompanied by a large packet of correspondence between Purdey’s & a Mr. Richard Finear of Goleta, CA indicating that he ordered this shotgun in 1971 and it was delivered in 1975. Also accompanied by its orig chocolate brown, burgundy felt lined, leather trunk case compartmented for the stocked receiver, both bbls, a square Purdey oil bottle, two Purdey snap caps, a nickeled brass screw top parts bottle containing two orig firing pins, an orig 2-pc cleaning rod still in their tissue paper and two small wire handle brushes still in their tissue paper. Case has the maker’s label inside the lid along with the complete specifications for this shotgun. Drop at the heel 2-5/16″, drop at the comb 1-1/2″. Bore restrictions: 26″: left – .049, right – .024. 25″: left – .003, right – .003. Weight with 25″ bbls: 5 lbs, 14.2 ozs. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, near new. Retains virtually all of its fine orig factory finish to both metal & wood with only very light muzzle edge wear and a minor nick or scratch in the wood. Crisp mechanics, brilliant shiny bores.
