MARTIALLY MARKED CAVALRY MODEL SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 61596. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ bbl, full height front sight with block letter 1-line address, 3-line patent dates & “U.S.” on left side of frame & 1-pc walnut grip. Left side of grip is stamped with date “1880” & sub-inspector’s cartouche “CCM” (Charles C. Morrison who inspected about 1,000 revolvers) & outline of a rectangular cartouche on right side. Bottom of grip, bottom of frame, bottom of bbl & cylinder all have “DFC” inspector initials. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter fully identifying this revolver as sold to the United States Government & delivered to U.S. Government inspector at Colt Plant Dec. 27, 1880 in a 150 gun shipment. CONDITION: Good to very good, all matching including bbl & cylinder. Three of cylinder numbers appear to have been welded & re-stamped indicating a replaced cylinder. Retains a smooth, even, artificially aged, brown patina with traces of orig blue in very sheltered areas. Grip has a large ding on bottom of right side, otherwise is sound with a fine hand polished patina & traces of orig finish. Hammer will not hold on half cock or full cock but indexes well. Bright shiny bore with a spot or two of very fine pitting. 4-58157 (5,000-8,000)
