EDOUARD ADAM (French, 1847-1929) PORTRAIT OF THE AMERICAN BARK “ELLIE” OFF LE HAVRE. Oil on canvas scene shows a black hulled ship in full sail sailing right to left. Eight men aboard and American flag flying off back mast. The ships name is on the front stern board. Six other small vessels are seen on the horizon. Light blue and cloud sky with a green to blue ocean. A point of land with buildings and cliff is seen on right side. Signed lower right “Ed. Adam 1878 Havre”. Housed in a replacement lemon gold frame. PROVENANCE: The J. Hollis Wyman Estate, Milbridge, Maine (State Senator and Wild Blueberry King). SIZE: 24” x 36”. CONDITION: Relined, craquelure, minor inpainting. Very good. 9-29118 (8000-12000)
