*RARE LUFTWAFFE PROTOTYPE OR EXPERIMENTAL MAUSER MODEL 98 WITH FOLDING STOCK. Cal. 8 mm. SN 9962. Standard appearing Mauser with 24″ bbl, usual bbl bands, wiping rod & sights with an orig Model 98 sling. It is mounted in a walnut stock & handguard with an unusual hinged apparatus through the wrist. Hinge is mounted on the left side with a latch on the right side. This is similar to the one employed by the Japanese. There are three large Waffenampts on the right side of the receiver ring with another on the bbl & a large Nazi eagle on the left side of the receiver. Right side of the buttstock has a Nazi eagle over a large “L” which is over two large “63” Waffenampts. There are three more “63” Waffenampts on the front of the trigger guard & floorplate. The workmanship in the hinged apparatus appears to be quite crude. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Retains about all of a restored finish to both metal & wood. Stock has a small chip by the hinge. It is all matching with some of the numbers appearing to have been re-stamped. Mechanics are fine, strong bore, dark in the grooves. 4-56799 (7,000-10,000)
