*RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 NATIONAL MATCH RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 1520517. Usual configuration with 24″ tapered rnd bbl marked “SA/2-38”. It has standard front sight blade with National Match rear sight, polished bolt, rails & follower. It is mounted in a Type C pistol grip stock with standard Springfield cartouche and with a very rare Garand cartouche just behind the cut off recess. Hand guard has a drawing number on top, as does the buttstock on the bottom. Accompanied by a military sling. It has a checkered National Match style buttplate with trap. Muzzle has standard crown with a star gage mark at the 6:00 position and it is accompanied by a set of P.J. O’Hare black metal sight covers. The stock is marked with matching serial number on butt near rear swivel. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl, receiver, trigger guard & floorplate retain most of their orig parkerized finish turning brown. Front bbl band has turned brown. Stock has a long grain crack on the right side and has numerous nicks, dings & scratches and retains an overall fine hand rubbed patina. Hand guard appears to have been wrapped with a covering for a long timeas there is a definite line about mid-point where it turns dark to match the stock and that area of lighter colored wood is more crisp & clean. Bolt, body & handle have fine pitting & has been recently polished. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. 4-56496 JR684 (2,500-4,000)
