GRAND NATIONAL HORSE RACE MACHINE. Most typical of an English machine, this arcade device required two players, each placing a coin in the slot, with the winner receiving his coin back. Upon activation, the jockeys/players fiercely crank the handle, having the horses run down the straightaway, and leaping over the hedges toward the finish line. The winner triumphantly illuminates their respective red or yellow light, and receiving their cash award in a payout cup on the front of the machine. The loser, forlorn, returns to the stable and awaits another race. One perceives himself to either be a jockey or a bystander looking on as the racers engage toward the finish line contained within a wooden glass front cabinet with original finish. A most colorful racetrack background is illuminated within. SIZE: 62″ t x 43″ w x 18″ d. CONDITION: Very nice original untouched condition, electrical components have been adapted to U.S. electric current. Mechanism appears to be intact, however, upon close inspection, one can see a piece of linkage that has become detached, which would enable the horses to advance toward the finish line, most likely a simple repair, needing only the smallest of adjustments. At some point, this device was converted to U.S. coinage, and two instruction tags behind plexiglass were affixed to the front of the cabinet. This is a very nice original condition machine that with a minimal amount of time and effort could be an exceptional showpiece. 1-8434 JL (1,500-2,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2008 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
