FRAMED PENCIL DRAWING BY O. WIEGHORST. Olaf Carl Weighorst (1899-1988), born in Denmark and emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 19. Served in the Cavalry on the Mexican border, then in the New York Police. Retired and moved to California where he became famous as a Western painter and illustrator. This is a fine example of his early pencil drawing, 18-1/4″ wide x 14″ high, image size which depicts three mounted cowboys leaving a cantina under fire from Mexicans. Signed in the lower right corner “O. WEIGHORST”. There is a date below the signature but is partially covered by the mat. It is Framed with early molded oak grain wide frame with gilt inner frame & thin homemade mat. CONDITION: Paper is sort of yellowed but the image is fine. Frame has a few chips on the edges, otherwise is fine. 8-87364 (3,500-6,500)
