WILLIAM DE LA MONTAGUE CARY (American, 1840-1922) THE AMBUSH. Gouache & pencil on paper painting in gray tones depicts a cowboy in buckskin clothing huddling next to his horse behind a small ridge. He is firing his Remington six shooter at an Indian on horseback. The horse is rearing up and the shot has hit its mark. Indian has dropped his rifle and is leaning forward, falling off his horse. Signed lower right “W. de la M. Cary”. A fine rendition of a classic western scene. Housed in a fine walnut molded wood frame with gilt inner wood liner. Image size: 18-1/4″ x 15’1/4″.
