ADRIAEN JANSZ VAN OSTADE (Dutch, 1610-1685) TWO WORKS: “PEASANT SETTLING HIS DEBT” and “THE EMPTY JUG”. 1) Etching signed in plate and shows a group of people in a tavern setting identified and titled underneath on the backing board. Housed in a black wood frame with matte (entire etching can be viewed). 2) Etching signed in plate lower left. Scene shows three gentleman checking out a jug which appears to be empty. There is a red oval seal in the upper right corner and the piece appears to be glued down onto a brown backing paper. Housed in an antique gilt wood frame with decorative matte. Identified on reverse in old writing that it is probably III state. SIZE: 1) Actual: 4-1/4″ x 3-1/4″. 2) Actual: 4-1/8″ x 3-1/2″. CONDITION: Not examined out of frame. 1) Etching is attached to backing board at corners and appears to be free elsewhere. No rips or tears. Good. 2) Glued down, no rips or tears.
