E. GOYARD AINE FITTED TRAVELING TRUNK. Late 19th early 20th century. The firm E. Goyard Aine, located at 233 Rue, St-Honore’, Paris, France during the 2nd half of the 19th century through the 1930s. This Vintage Goyard trunk with distinctive chevron canvas was produced in the early 1900’s. The canvas is woven cotton, linen, and hemp, and is hand painted in the chevron pattern. The pattern was designed to form a Y to commemorate the three centuries of the Goyard family history. In 1856 La Maison Goyard began making trunks, cases, luggage, and handbags in Paris of high quality. The lock of the trunk is engraved with “E. Goyard Aine, 233 rue St Honore Paris 45”. The brass latches and fittings are signed “Goyard Aine”. This trunk has all brass fittings that maintain their original patina and coating. The brass carrying handles are also impressed with company insignia. The case with hinged lid opening to a fitted interior of compartments, the outermost with hinged lids. The case front with hinged and latched door opens to an interior fitted with a bank of four drawers, each with cast brass handles within leather holders. The sides, each mounted with a cast brass handle and a brass nameplate holder. The lid retains an original Cunard Line baggage label for a voyage from South Hampton to New York, January 1932. SIZE: 33″ h x 23″ w x 19″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Massachusetts Collection. CONDITION: Normal and acceptable wear and scuffing to exterior of fabric.
