FINE WOLFF & CLARK BOWIE KNIFE WITH HISTORY. 9-1/2” clip point blade with 6-5/8” sharpened false edge on the spine. Marked ‘WOLFF & CLARK” faintly on the left ricasso. The crossguard and hilt is German silver and engraved with a shell pattern on both sides. The stag scales are attached with eight German silver rivets. The leather scabbard is decorated with geometric symbols and has German silver throat and tip. This knife has a history. Included are a letter to a former owner and a book mentioned in the letter. The knife was found in a house in East Greenwich RI owned by a Mrs. Washburn. The Washburns are an old RI family. A book An 1862 Trip to the Wes , written by Lyman Goff was found with the knife which is mentioned in the book. Goff’s granddaughter published this memorial book after his death. CONDITION: Shows signs of cleaning, but light spots of pitting remain. Hilt is fine with pleasant patina. No cracks on the scales. Scabbard has been glued at the tip and has minor cracks on the reverse. Throat is loose. 4-58188 (25,000-35,000)
