MAYNARD IMPROVED HUNTING OR TARGET RIFLE #9. Cal. 40-40 Maynard. SN 11938. It appears to be a #9 or may be a #10 with replaced buttstock. It has 28″ medium weight oct to rnd bbl with gold washed Beech’s front sight, 2-position flip rear sight and an elevating tang sight. It has nicely figured American walnut wood with checkered Schnable tipped tiny forearm and straight stock with nickeled brass Swiss buttplate. Bbl is mounted with Malcolm type Vernier adjustable target blocks containing a 3/4″ tube target scope, 22″ overall, with a 1-3/4″ objective. It appears to be about 4 power. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains about 95-96% strong orig blue with a few scattered spots of light surface rust. Receiver retains about 95% fading case colors, strong on the sides. Forearm is nicely figured with a chip in the tip and has a nice hand polished patina. Buttstock is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Buttplate retains about 85% orig nickel.
