FINE ITALIAN MARQUETRY INLAID 19TH CENTURY WRITING BOX. The writing box with two serpentine swelled lids, each mounted with oval marquetry scenes depicting peasants. The lower lid opens to reveal a writing surface. The upper opens to reveal a pen tray and scrolled letter racks. Inlaid on interior of lid “SORRENTO”. Each end panel with marquetry inlaid vignettes of peasants. The back of box also with large marquetry inlaid vignette. SIZE: 13-3/4″l x 9-1/2″d x 6″h. CONDITION: Sound but with various imperfections. Background of vignette on right panel mostly missing. all of the rest intact however there are various small old repairs or imperfections. 9-97647 (450-850)
