MARLIN MODEL 1881 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 40. SN 1570. Standard grade rifle with 28″ oct bbl, full magazine, ivory bead hunting front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Wood is nicely figured American walnut with uncheckered forearm & straight stock with semi-crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 60-70% blue turning plum with a small ding by the sight. Magazine tube is a silver/brown patina. Receiver retains 85-90% strong orig blue with some wear & flaking on the right side & bottom under a coating of old dried oil. There is a small pattern of light pitting on the left side. Lever & hammer retain traces of orig case colors. Stock has a hairline on the right side of the wrist and a couple of grain checks by the buttplate, otherwise the wood is sound with the forearm retaining traces of orig varnish and the buttstock about 60% orig varnish with a fine patina overall.
