RENAISSANCE REVIVAL CARVED WALNUT FIVE-PIECE PARLOR SUITE. Third quarter 19th century. Probably New York, consisting of a sofa, pair of gentlemen’s armchairs and a pair of side chairs. Each with and arched and scrolling crest centering a carved female bust within a rondel. The frames carved and gilt decorated overall and raised on cylindrical, fluted, tapering, ring-turned frontal legs on casters. All upholstered in original needlework tapestry. SIZE: Sofa: 49 1/2″H; overall length 63″ Armchair: 48″H, W26 1/2″ PROVENANCE: Estate of Dr. Lee W. Richards Jr. of Augusta, Maine. Obstetrician & Augusta’s first specialist. CONDITION: Structurally intact with original old finish all with deteriorating wear and damages to original fabric, including webbing. One armchair missing its casters.
