*EXCEPTIONALLY RARE MARLIN MODEL 1893 ONE OF A KIND ENGRAVED SPECIAL ORDER TAKEDOWN RIFLE 3-BBL SET. Cal. 25-36, 32-40, 38-55. SN 200129. Extraordinarily rare rifle with three 18″ oct to rnd takedown bbls, all three with ivory bead hunting front sights & semi-buckhorn rear sights. It is mounted with exceptional, shell grain, center crotch cut American walnut wood, carved & checkered in 5 (3) pattern which consists of full checkered forearms with scalloped front edges, an oval on each side in the center and an arrowhead shaped carving at the rear filled with about 32 line per inch checkering. Wrist is identically engraved with an extra flourish toward the top & it has a serpentine shaped grip cap with crescent buttplate.

Receiver is spectacularly engraved in 5 (3) pattern, probably by Conrad Ulrich, with a very large vignette of a standing bull moose & reclining cow moose in a woodland scene, surrounded by Ulrich’s typical ribbon framework with oak leaf & acorn patterns front & back. Right side continues the oak leaf & acorn patterns on the bolt & the receiver with a smaller version of his ribbon framework with a rnd vignette engraved “WYO”. Sides of the lever, sides of the hammer, take down rings, forend caps & buttplate tang are all engraved with varying patterns & borders in Ulrich’s inimitable style. Top flat of each of the bbls are also engraved in small version “WYO”. Marlin roll mark is appropriately on the rnd section of the bbls forward of the forearms. This is the only known engraved 3-bbl set ever made by Marlin & was the most expensive engraved Marlin rifle ever made without gold. Its cost in 1900 was $196.00 and Marlin’s most expensive gun was just $14.00 more at $210.00.

CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Bbls all retain 97-98% strong bright orig blue with a couple of thin spots on the two larger calibers. Receiver retains about 95% glossy bright blue, slightly thinned over the top front of the receiver. Lever, hammer & buttplate retain most of their orig case colors, brilliant on the sides of the lever, turning silver elsewhere. Hammer colors are somewhat faded while the buttplate retains mostly brilliant colors. Stock has a couple of grain checks on each side, otherwise the wood is sound & retains most of its wonderful oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-57439 JR712 (100,000-150,000)
