NEW ENGLAND CLASSICAL REVIVAL CARVED MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK. Late 19th/early 20th century. The brass movement by WM GILBERT CLOCK CO/ WINSTED, CONN. and so marked on back plate. Brass eight-day weight driven on chain time and strike on rods movement. The carved mahogany bonnet with swan’s neck molded crest tipped with floral rosettes alternating with urn finials, the frieze decorated with a ribbon-tied floral swag above the astragal arched door flanked by engaged fluted pilasters with bellflower capitals. The silvered dial within foliate embossed brass spandrels beneath a similarly embossed arch. The case with concave anthemion leaf carved frieze above the rectangular molded door set with a beveled glass panel and flanked by free standing Corinthian columns with foliate carved capitals and bases. The box base carved with floral ribbon tied swags, the whole raised on carved claw feet with molded returns. Each case side carved with a bank of recessed molded panels. SIZE: 8’7″ h x 28″ w x 17″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Cape Elizabeth, Maine home. CONDITION: The brass movement in very nice condition overall. The mahogany case with original surfaces and dark patina. Please note: Losses to bellflower swag at top of beveled glass door and with some minor losses to toes. Otherwise very good. 9-22387 (3,000-6,000)
