UNUSUAL ANTIQUE GROTESQUE FIGURAL PAINTED WOOD CANDLE HOLDER. This exceptional carved wood and polychrome painted candlestick in the form of a standing grotesque creature with claw feet, bizarre styled head and clasped hands on a protruding stump. Atop of the head is a candle socket. Probably Continental, possibly Austrian. SIZE: 15-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Figure with an old repair to ankles, the candle socket top has been reattached with some chips at juncture. Separation in lamination on base. 9-95790 (800-1,200)
