MARQUETRY INLAID SORRENTO WRITING BOX. This shaped lap desk having two serpentine lids, both with inlaid marquetry panels. One depicts dancing peasants, the other, a farmer and his wife. The top lid opens to reveal compartments for letters, pens and an inkwell, etc., and marked “SORRENTO”. The lower lid opens to create a velvet-surfaced writing area with well beneath. Each end and reverse of the box, much inlaid and each side with different marquetry imageries. SIZE: 13-1/2”w x 10-1/2” d x 6” h. CONDITION: Shows use and with scattered imperfections. The right side panel missing various pieces of marquetry. 9-23403 (300-500)
