CONFEDERATE POLE ARM HEAD. Made from Springfield bayonet blade. These pole arms were catalogued by Francis Bannerman as having come from Confederate Arsenal. Reference: “FRANCIS BANNERMAN’S MILITARY CATALOG OF 1917”. Also see “MILITARY COLLECTOR & HISTORIAN, VOL. XL1 NO. 4”, page 221 for additional information. SIZE: Blade is 19-1/2”, overall approx. 26”. Pike consists of braised or welded Springfield bayonet blade attached to cast iron head with two sturdy quillions. The pike head would be attached to a pole by a transverse rivet through the two holes in the head. CONDITION: Overall brown with scattered pitting, slight areas of luster brightness.
