RARE COLT ARTILLERY SGL ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 48704. All blue finish, 5-1/2″ bbl, fixed sights, block letter 1-line address without serifs. This unusual artillery has the full blued frame, which is referred to on p. 96-97 of Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers, a Continuing Study, Kopec & Fenn as “True Blue”. It appears that this is one of the few Colt or arsenal re-worked sgl actions that had the frame blued instead of case colored. All of the edges are sharp and the bluing is nearly translucent. It also has the distinction of being fully matched including the bbl & cylinder and all of the parts have the “H.N.” (Henry Nettleton) sub-inspector marks including the left side of the hammer. Grips are crisp & new and have the “R.A.C.” sub-inspector mark on the bottom of each side and the bottom of the bbl also has the “R.A.C.” sub-inspector mark along with the “H.N.” mark and both have an adjacent small “P” proof. Ejector rod housing has a small “K” at the tip. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Overall retains 96-98% orig blue, slightly thinned on the left side of the bbl & back strap with some flaking on the cylinder & ejector rod housing. Both sides of the frame have several nicks & dings that were there when the frame was refinished. Some of the screws have slipped edges. Grips are crisp with only minor nicks & scratches on the left side. Hammer will not hold in safety notch, otherwise mechanics are crisp. Strong bright bore with scattered light pitting. 4-56816 JR413 (5,000-8,000)
