*TEXAS RANGER INSCRIBED COLT SGL ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 38 WCF (38-40). SN 211820. Nickel finish with 5-1/2″ bbl and after-market thick stag grips. Back strap is pantograph inscribed “L. HIGHTOWER / TEXAS RANGER”. Accompanied by a tooled black sgl loop holster with white plastic braided lacing. Loop is carved with a large “H”. Also accompanied by the book, CAPTAIN CLINT PEOPLES TEXAS RANGER”, Day, where on p. 39 it is mentioned that Hightower, Liberty County, Texas Sheriff, had an incident with bank robbers and that he later became a Texas Ranger and worked with Capt. Peoples. In addition there are numerous pcs of correspondence with members of Hightower’s descendents, along with his Oath of Service dated 2 September 1931 where he enlisted in Company B of the Texas Rangers. There is also a copy of his Warrant of Authority on the same date. There are several pages of Hightower genealogy listing him as having been named “Lockhart Valentine Hightower”, born February 14, 1888. He apparently played semi-professional Texas league baseball, worked in the oil fields and on his father’s cattle ranch. He was elected Liberty County Sheriff in 1924 and served two terms. The town of Hightower, Texas is named after his family. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Overall retains about all of a restored nickel finish. Grips are fine, timing needs attention, otherwise mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. Holster shows little wear. 4-57158 JR543 (2,500-3,500)
