CONTINENTAL GOTHIC STYLE CARVED WALNUT SETTLE. First quarter 20th century, Italian or Spanish. The carved scrolling crestrail with foliate finials centering a mark above the rectangular 4 panel back, each carved with Gothic arches and scrolling vinery, joined to downswept chip and foliate-carved arms with robed mask grips. Joined to the rectangular box seat with hinged lid opening to a storage bin, the front with 4 Gothic carved panels, the whole raised on bracket feet. Now fitted with a custom silk brocade cushion. SIZE: 64-1/2″ h x 48″ w x 20-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Structurally very good with clean surfaces. Small carved elements absent in crest, otherwise very good. 9-96857 (900-1,200)
