FINE ETCHED PANEL COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 108008. Blue & case colored with 7-1/2″ bbl, orig front sight, 1-line block letter address with 3-line patent dates & 1-pc walnut grip. Caliber, “44 CF” is on left front web of trigger guard. There is a hole in buttstrap, apparently where someone had installed a swivel. Accompanied by a period military style flap holster, constructed of russet brown leather with a 12″ holster body that appears to have been made for an 8″ bbl. It has a full military style flap with sewn-on tab that fits over a brass stud. Back has a large 3″ wide belt loop sewn to the body & fastened with three copper harness rivets. It has a sewn back edge & Cheyenne plug. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter identifying this as a 44-40. Bbl length & stocks not listed, blue finish, shipped April 15, 1884 to M.L. Roberts, address not available. Under remarks there is a second listing in records which shows it with a 5-1/2″ bbl & rubber stocks shipped June 30, 1888 to B. Kittredge Arms Co. in Cincinnatti, OH. CONDITION: Fine plus. Bbl retains 35-40% glossy orig blue being mostly a flaked blue/brown patina. Etched panel has turned to patina but is completely legible. Frame retains 60-70% orig case colors, strong & bright on left side & in sheltered areas elsewhere mixed with silver/brown patina. Hammer retains most of its orig case colors, strong on sides & back edge turned to dark on top. Trigger guard & top of backstrap retain thin orig blue with straps a silver/brown patina. Grip is sound with a large bruise on left side & a smaller one on right side with some lost varnish up around frame, apparently from cleaning chemicals. Cylinder retains strong orig blue mixed with flaked patina & scattered fine pitting. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright bore with scattered pitting. Holster is sound with body being lightly crackled & flexed near tip with some light losses of finish. Flap is dry & very crackled & retains about 60% orig finish. Tab is original, dry, worn & soft but still functional. Altogether a fine rig. 4-59115 (8,000-12,000)
