*COLT SGL ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian & S&W Spcl. SN 345814. Blue & case colored with 5-1/2″ bbl, fixed sights and rampant Colt hard rubber grips. Grip frame serial numbers are on the right sides of the front & back straps under the grip. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter identifies this revolver and indicating shipment April 20, 1923 to Von Lengerke & Antoine of Chicago, IL. Grips are listed as wood, which is unlikely during this period and especially in light of the fact that the current hard rubber grips are numbered to this revolver. Letter also cites an excerpt from The Book of Colt Firearms, Sutherland & Wilson. A quick search of this book disclosed only a reference to the fact that the chambering of this rev will accept both cartridges, whereas the 44 S&W chambering only will not accept the 44 Spcl. cartridge. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. All matching including the grips & cylinder. Bbl & ejector rod housing retain about 95-96% strong orig blue. Grip frame is mostly a gray patina. Cylinder retains about 90% orig blue and the frame, traces of case colors in the very sheltered areas, being mostly a mottled silver/gray patina. Grips are sound and show light to moderate wear. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-57016 JR400 (3,500-5,000)
