COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER SGL ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH MONTANA ASSOCIATION. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 142567. Blue & case colored with rare 4-3/4″ bbl, roll marked on the left side “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. It has 2-line bbl address and 2-line patent dates with rampant Colt hard rubber grips. Accompanied by two Colt factory letters identifying this revolver as having been shipped Sept. 2, 1891 to Babcock & Miles of Billings or Red Lodge, MT in a shipment of six pieces. The 1967 letter has the hand written notation “Billings, Montana”. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Has been fired but very little. Bbl retains 96-97% glossy bright orig blue. Cylinder retains about 90% glossy orig blue with a cylinder line & a few scratches. Frame & hammer retain most of their orig case colors, bright in the sheltered areas, fading and turning silver elsewhere. Back strap retains about 50% strong orig blue with the balance flaked, not worn, to light patina. Front strap & trigger guard retain 75-80% orig blue, glossy & bright around the trigger guard with the front strap having a small worn spot and flaked to light patina. Grips are extremely fine showing very light wear with the right side turning chocolate. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright bore with some light frosting. 4-57412 JR620 (12,500-17,500)
