WILLIAM ROBINSON LEIGH (American, 1866-1955) ARCTIC CAMP DISASTER. Monochromatic gouache on hardboard scene shows an Arctic camp with tent, pack sleds, dogs and men in the midst of an ice breakup with storm. A dog desperately tries to save itself from the icy water while two men struggle with a packed sled. Another team is shown in background with a tent askew. Signed lower left “W. R. Leigh 1899”. Housed in a gray painted molded wood frame with gray matte. Original label on back of board “No. 8990 Article II William Leight Pub. in March 1900”. Probably an illustration for McClure’s or Scribner’s whom he did illustrations for. SIGHT SIZE: 19” x 14”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-70981 (8,000-12,000)
