RARE EARLY SPECIAL ORDER DELUXE ENGRAVED MODEL 1873 WINCHESTER LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 7560. Rare 1st model ’73 with impressed thumbprint mortised dust cover with 30” oct bbl, full magazine, homemade front sight blade and a 900 yard Henry style ladder rear sight. Receiver is custom engraved in Nimschke style with about 75% coverage on each side of the receiver consisting of foliate arabesque patterns. It is mounted with spectacular highly figured about 3X American walnut with early style checkered forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate with trap. CONDITION: Bbl retains a smooth even artificially aged brown patina with all markings clear & legible. Magazine tube is a mottled brown patina. Receiver retains most of an artificially aged brown patina and the serial number has been restamped. One forend cap screw is a replacement and the other is missing. Wood is sound with light handling & use marks, shows moderate to heavy wear in the checkering & retains most of an old restored finish. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore with moderate to heavy pitting. 4-56443 JR502 (8,000-12,000)
