MODEL 1842 MUSKET. Lock is marked forward of hammer “PALMETTO ARMORY S.C” surrounding a Palmetto tree. Behind hammer is marked “COLUMBIA S.C. 1852”. Springfield bbl is marked with “VP” and bbl tine dated “1845”. Reference: “CONFEDERATE RIFLES & MUSKETS” by Dr. John Murphy. “WILLIAM GLAZE AND THE PALMETTO ARMORY” by Jack Meyer. Gun is mounted with three iron bands, unmarked iron buttplate and cupped rod. All parts appear “SPRINGFIELD” or “HARPER’S FERRY” except for Palmetto Armory lock. All parts of gun appear to have grown up together. Rack number “19” occurs on bbl tine and stock. CONDITION: Overall gun is average for pattern with good wood and good metal. Metal has scattered pitting consistent on lock and bolster. 4-48825 JS13 (2,000-2,250)
