VICTORIAN CAST-IRON READING & DICTIONARY STAND. Second half 19th century. Manufactured by the Holloway Company, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, USA, marked, “HOLLOWAY READING STAND & DICTIONARY HOLDER. STYLE. A.”, cast around the rim of the top circular shelf. This rare example with two adjustable opposing arms; one mounted with a large wooden rack for dictionary the smaller extending arm for reading. The whole on a turned sloping central pedestal continuing to a square plinth raised on claw feet, the returns with scrolled volutes, raised on casters. The whole cast with gilt-decorated flower heads and leaf tips. SIZE: 39″ h, base 17″ square. CONDITION: In very good overall condition with painted surfaces. 9-97410 (2,500-3,500)
