OUTSTANDING TRANSITIONAL SHERATON GILT OVER MANTEL MIRROR. Mid 19th century, probably Boston. The shaped mirror plate within a foliate frame cast with cascading and scrolling floral vinery, fruit, and nuts centering an ornate ribbon-tied scrolling crest cast with pineapples, grapes, flowerheads, and vinery. SIZE: 72″ h x 76″ w. PROVENANCE: Descended in the Asa Clapp Family. CONDITION: The whole in very good condition retaining original gilding, mirror plate, and chamfered paneled backboards. Old minor losses to gilt leafage and ribbons throughout the frame. Original gilding retouched in areas of damage. 9-95814 (2,000-3,000)
