EARLY COLT OPEN TOP REVOLVER. Cal. 44 RF. SN 961. Usual configuration with 7-5/16″ rnd bbl with brass trigger guard & 1-pc walnut grip. Left side of frame has the early marking “COLT’S PATENT” instead of the later patent dates. CONDITION: Very good. All matching including the wedge. Bbl retains an overall dark blue/gray patina, having been reduced to its present length with a replaced front sight. Cylinder is a gray patina with some light to moderate pitting. Frame is a smooth blue/gray patina with a couple of small dents on each side and light pitting on the recoil shield. Appears that the firing pin may be a replacement as the rivets are peened over. Trigger guard has nicks & dings with some file marks. Grip is sound showing heavy wear with chipped toes and retains 30-50% old varnish. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore with moderate pitting. Trigger screw & some of the frame screws are replacements. 4-55202 JR542 (1,750-2,750)
