STORY PERCUSSION HALF-STOCK RIFLE. Cal. 36. 31” octagonal bbl, marked “P. STORY / WINDSOR VT.” on lock and bbl. Paschall Story was the son of Asa Story and worked in Windsor from 1830 to 1870. This is the only known rifle by him. Notice the strange placement of the rear ramrod pipe against the forearm tip. The pattern of the iron patchbox is similar to that used by his father. The engraving is also similar. There is an extension on the toeplate that is not engraved and appears to have been an afterthought. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Smooth light brown patina and scattered rust stains. There is a crack between the front of the lockplate and the drum, otherwise the stock is fine. Action is fine. 4-52608 FS51 (1,000-1,500)
