RARE VARIATION OF A CONFEDERATE SHARP’S CARBINE, GOVERNMENT MODEL. SN. 2628, visible on lock and tang. This gun features a rare variation in the lever lock. A screw is used instead of a lever pin in the breech block, only three carbines have been found with this variation noted. “Richmond, VA” is marked on the top. Note: The brass retainer on the foreend is correct. In fact, the example illustrated in Dr. Murphy’s book, which does not have a brass retainer, is now known to be incorrect. Reference “Confederate Carbines and Musketoons” by Dr. John Murphy. CONDITION: Metal and wood are cleaned and lightly refinished. Metal edges to frame and receiver are sharp. Carbine shows honest use and saddle wear. This is a very fine example of a rare Confederate Richmond Sharps. 4-48654 JS28 (20,000-30,000)
