EARLY COIN OPERATED DROP CARD VIEWING MACHINE. A fine late 19th century(1890s) coin operated stereo-card viewing machine. Rarely do such early machines come to the marketplace. This example has a linen and wooden drum to which various stereo-optican cards are in place. Trimmed with brass colored ormolu which contain either glass or directions, and a fine cherry cabinet. After depositing a nickel one would flip the handle back and forth thus changing the images visible through the observation window. Obviously only a small number of images could be viewed before the patron would have to deposit another nickel to view more images! Of unknown manufacture this machine is in all original untouched condition. SIZE: 13-1/2″ w x 21″ h x 14″ d. CONDITION: Overall in very fine original condition with some age separation to wooden cabinet. 1-8583 JL (1,500-2,500)
